UNDP Essay Competition Details
The UNDP Essay Competition is part of the United Nations Development Programme’s effort to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This competition invites Nigerian undergraduate students to write essays on how tax policies can support progress toward the SDGs in Nigeria. Winning essays will be used to create policy briefs.

Essay Topics
Participants can choose from these themes for their essays:
- Exploring the potential of Innovative Tax Policies and Strategies to drive sustainable development for progress towards closing the SDGs financing Gap in Nigeria.
- Exploring linkages between inclusive and sustainable tax systems on environmental sustainability, digital economy and trade.
- Strengthening tax systems to combat Illicit Financial Flows in Nigeria for progress towards closing the SDGs financing Gap in Nigeria.
Eligibility Requirements
To enter the 2024 UNDP Undergraduate Essay Competition, you must:
- Be an undergraduate student currently enrolled in a recognized university or college in Nigeria.
- Provide both your national ID and your university ID with your submission.
Submission Guidelines
- Essay Length: Between 1,500 and 2,000 words.
- Language: English.
- Format: Typed, double-spaced, and submitted in PDF format.
- Originality: Essays must be original, unpublished, and not generated by AI. Plagiarism will lead to disqualification.
Prizes
- First Prize: NGN 1,000,000 and a certificate.
- Second Prize: NGN 750,000 and a certificate.
- Third Prize: NGN 500,000 and a certificate.
